AN INTRODUCTION

Based in Frome, Somerset, I specialize in creating beautiful hand bound notebooks that are revitalized fragments of our social history. I collect and reuse antique and vintage books, maps, sewing patterns and ephemera that although exhausted still holds the potential for a renewed and beautiful life.

The techniques I use are traditional to this ancient craft, including hand tools and manual machines. Original material is discovered, mainly, within the local area, with new materials being from sustainable sources.

I trained as a graphic designer and illustrator and have collected books all my life. A passion for books, their art and history, led me to bring my skills together to produce my unique bindings. The mission is to give new life to as many exhausted books as possible!

Through my work I use nostalgia, history and interests to reconnect people with memories and significant times in their lives. This might be a poem an image or a particular title. Books contain their authors stories along with clues to their readers stories too. I use these clues in my bindings, retaining the moments left within inscriptions, dates, notes and marks. A tea cup ring, an ink spot, family recipe or postcard can tell an inspiring story of its own, bringing the past alive at our fingertips. 

Just like people no two of my notebooks are the same. Each is an individual, full of fun and packed with personality!

What type of materials do you use?

I love to hunt for and reuse exhausted books and print. The are mainly  from my local area and range from vintage annuals to antiquated books, comic, sewing patterns, maps and ephemera. New materials are recycled or sustainable, I like to use new and inovative papers that are friendly to our planet as much as possible.

What is the turnaround time for a project?

Turnaround time varies depending on the size and complexity of the project. One off bespoke orders take up to two weeks to create and are posted once you are happy with the finished piece. We work together over email and through images so you know exactly what to expect. When ordering larger projects or multiple bindings timings will be added to your quote.

How do I place an order?
